Air Conditioning in Texas

In Texas, an air conditioner works hard to cool your home. It also conditions the air by cleaning it and controlling humidity. So how does the unit actually cool the air? Air conditioners are similar to refrigerators in that they cool a contained space. Air conditioners convert gas to a liquid using chemicals, which takes the heat from inside and transfers it outside. Air conditioning maintenance is a great way to ensure this process is working correctly and efficiently. We also provide an Air Conditioning Tune-Up.

There are three essential parts to get the job done. The air compressor, a condenser unit and the evaporator. Typically, the compressor and condenser are housed in the outdoor unit, which is what most people refer to as the air conditioner. However, the evaporator is usually part of the indoor unit, often located in the furnace of a central heat and air system.

Fluid is delivered to the compressor and at that stage, is a cool, low-pressure gas. The compressor packs the molecules of fluid by squeezing them together, heating the fluid. The fluid then flows into the condenser and by then, is much cooler and has changed from a gas to a liquid in the high pressure. The liquid is transferred to the evaporator through a small hole and then the liquid’s pressure drops. This results in the liquid evaporating into a gas.

Heat is extracted from the air as the liquid changes to gas during evaporation. When the fluid leaves the evaporator, it has become a cool, low pressure gas. Then it goes back into the compressor and starts all over again.

A fan, connected to the evaporator, circulates the air inside the house and blows it across the evaporator. Since hot air is lighter than cold, the hot air rises to the top of the room where a vent is located to suck the air into the air conditioner. The hot air cools the gas in the evaporator and as the heat is removed, the air is cooled. That air is then delivered through the air ducts into the house. This process is repeated over and over again until the room air reaches the set temperature on the thermostat.
